Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA) has allocated Rwf1.2bn towards the renovation of the Nyabugogo-Kinamba road for heavy trucks, commonly known as Poids Lourd.The part of the road to be repaired runs from Nyabugogo Main Taxi Park to Kinamba-Kacyiru roundabout.According to the new plans, the geomorphologic level of the road will be raised to prevent water from flooding the road during heavy rains, affecting transport and at time causing death.“We have been able to secure funds for the project and the construction works are to start within two weeks.” Eng. Innocent Hagenimana, the in-charge of roads at RTDA said, adding that the future plan is to modernise the whole road up to the main Kigali-Gatuna Highway.Besides flooding, some road users have complained that it is too narrow, thus causing traffic jam but Hagenimana said there is no need to expand the said road as it exceeds normal standard. He attributed the jam to the heavy trucks that use it, saying that other alternative solutions can be sought, not enlarging it.
