Even in the face of enemies, Rwanda is stronger

Editor,This is in reference to the commentary, “Rwanda has more friends than enemies”, written by the Prime Minister of Rwanda, Dr Pierre Damien Habumuremyi, in The New Times edition of June 12.Friends and enemies reflect the nature of the universe. We live in the world of opposites where there is nothing we can do about it unless recognising that the other side of the coin should be there.It’s true that Rwanda has got many friends than enemies, but what does this mean or show to the rest of the world? It clearly manifests that the country is tending to a utilitarian principle of the greatest happiness, to the greatest number and the common good – the general welfare of the community.But of course, there will always be those who try to find darkness in light; for me, those are the enemies of the country. What interests them is mixing up issues by drowning in the backward direction while the rest of the country is busy building up strong foundations for the future generations. We have to also remember that there are those who see white where there’s pitch black. They don’t only see their country taking steps in the right direction, they are always there striving to help their country whenever it passes through the darkness tunnel. These are true friends that the Premier talked about, and we outnumber the enemies.They will lag behind in a state of denial and stay seeing darkness as Rwanda keeps on shining regardless of any obstacle on our way. As long as we make it our problem, we will and shall always find a solution. The struggle continues.Enemies are there to make us strong, and even stronger. But luckily, as he has stated, we have more friends than enemies. President Kagame’s long strides to strive for self-reliance focuses beyond the imaginable horizons, our future is bright, and hope is in superlative state of comparison. “What is done cannot be undone”, Shakespeare said it and Bob Marley sang, “We refused to be what they wanted us to be, we are what we are and that is how it is going to be if you do not know.”.
