George Weah and Excellent FC claim juniors’ memorial event

This year’s edition attracted four boys’ and two girls’ teams respectively. The boys’ teams included; George Weah Football Centre, Sentapisi, AS Kagarama and the tournament organisers, Fabrice Ndayisaba Foundation, while the two girls’ teams were Fabrice Ndayisaba Foundation and Excellent Football Centre. In the opening match, Kabuga-based George Weah Football Centre beat hosts Fabrice Ndayisaba Foundation 3-1 and on the second day, Sentapisi from Gahanga beat AS Kagarama 1-0, while Excellent FC won 2-0 over the tournament hosts in the first leg of girls’ final playoff. In the final matches played on Sunday, George Weah FC beat Sentapisi 2-0 to lift the boys’ title, while Excellent FC, despite losing the second leg 2-0, still managed to win the girls’ title 4-2 on penalties.After the final matches, Fabrice Ndayisaba, the 19-year old president of the Fabrice Ndayisaba Foundation, formerly Eto’o Foundation told Times Sport, “This tournament is important because some of the children taking part lost their close relatives during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.” The tournament was made possible thanks to sponsors from Rwanda football federation (Ferwafa), Magazin Solution Sports and CNLG.The first edition was won by Blue Stars (U-15 boys) and Meilleur Amis took the U-13 category title. Denominators won both boys and girls’ categories after beating hosts Eto’o Foundation in both finals of the second edition.
