FinalSaturdayRayon 0-0 La Jeunesse (3-1 pen)Primus National league champions, Rayon Sports won the inaugural Genocide Memorial Tournament over the weekend at Amahoro National Stadium.Rayon Sports won the four-team tournament after a 3-1 penalty shoot-out against youthful side La Jeunesse following a goalless draw in normal time.Johnson Bagoole and Salita Gentil Kambale scored the Nyanza-based Rayon Sports’ first and last penalties, while Andre Lomami scored the only penalty for La Jeunesse.En route to the final, the Blues beat Mukura 2-1 in the semi-final, while La Jeunesse overcame Police FC on penalties earlier in the week.The Genocide Memorial tournament was organised by Rwanda Football Federation, Ferwafa, in conjunction with the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG).After the final whistle, head coach Didier Gomez da Rosa said, “Once again, I must congratulate my players for the effort they put in to achieve this. It’s another competition we have won, so I am happy.”“But this is just the beginning, there is a lot to do ahead of next season, we still need to strengthen the team with quality players and after that we can hope to win more (titles),” the Frenchman told the media on Saturday. It is the fourth title Rayon Sports have won in a season where the team also won the national league, Agaciro Development Fund cup and the RwandaFootball.com cup.Rayon will represent Rwanda in next year’s CAF Orange Champions League.
