Franco-Rwandan rapper Gaël Faye in concert tonight

Franco-Rwandan rapper Gaël Faye is in the country to promote his first solo album ‘Pili Pili sur un Croissant au Beurre.’ He will hold his first ever concert in Rwanda tonight at Rwanda Revenue Authority multi-purpose hall in Kimihurura. His second concert will take place in Huye on Saturday. Entrance for tonight’s concert, which starts at 7pm, will cost Rwf 2,500. Tomorrow’s 7pm concert at El Dorado will cost Huye-residents Rwf 500. Faye will thereafter head to Bujumbura, Burundi, a city that he called home for the first 13 years of his life. The 30-year-old said that he started by writing music pieces and poems while still at school before he started practicing his music career after quitting his Finance managerial role in a London firm. “I did my Masters degree in London and then worked for a finance company there. Later I decided to take a break for one year and try producing my first album,” he explained. “My inspiration to do music started in Bujumbura where I used to stay with my French father and reflect on the times of war and tribulations in Rwanda, where my mother comes from,” Faye said. Pili Pili sur un croissant beurre features a number of singles such as, La France, Je pars, Slow operation, Qwerty, Charivari, Isimbi, Metis, President, Petit pays and Bouge a Buja, which are enjoying massive airplay in the radio stations across Europe, especially in France. His tour is not about making money. “Our aim is to promote music and meet local talent so that we can work together,” he said. Faye moved to Paris aged 13 where he currently lives. He is married and has two daughters.
