FRSS and Education ministry have urged the champions of the recently concluded inter-schools’ games not to relax as the toughest challenges lay ahead. The champions of each sports discipline will represent the country in the forthcoming East African inter-schools Games scheduled for August 22-30 here in Kigali. While closing the competitions held in Huye district last Sunday, Paterne Rwigema the director of sports in the ministry of Education noted that this year’s games were a success compared to last year’s. He used the occasion to urge the winning schools not to relax but instead put more effort in preparing for next month’s regional competitions. This year’s inter-schools games were dominated by Provincial schools. In football, College Nyamiramihigo (boys) and APAPE (girls) will represent the country after defeating St. Joseph Muhanga 2-1 and 7-0 in the boys and girls’ categories respectively in the finals. In basketball, St. Joseph Muhanga defeated St. Andre, Nyamirambo 60-49 in the boys’ final while St. Vincent Musanze beat ENDP Karubanda 53-35 in the girls’ category. In volleyball, Christ Roi won the boys’ title after defeating G.S.O.B by three sets to two (3-2) in the final game and Apedi Rwaza took the girls’ title. St. Joseph Kabgayi will represent the country in netball competitions after they defeated Christ Roi 47-31 in the final game. In handball, the boys of St. Joseph Kabgayi and the girls of APAPEKI Cyuru will be Rwanda’s representatives. St. Joseph Kabgayi beat St. Joseph Nyamasheke 24-17 and APAPEKI Cyuru defeated APPEC Remera Rukoma. In rugby, the hosts will be represented by St. Joseph Kabgayi and APPEC Rukoma. Ends
