Too Fridah Jepkite Lodep (Ken)For the ninth year in a row Kenyan athletes have showed why they are the best at long distance after dominating the Kigali International Peace Marathon on Sunday.Lah Kipkomboi, a Kenyan won the half marathon after clocking one hour, 1 minute and 41 seconds to take the grand prize of Rwf1m. Moses Kipkosgei, another Kenyan came second in a time of 1 hour 2 minutes and 3 seconds, while Ayeko from Uganda came third with 1hour 1minute and 41 seconds. The second and third took Rfw800.000 and Rfw600.000 respectively.Robert Kajuga was Rwanda’s best performer in fourth position with 1hour 2minutes and 9seconds, JMV Uwajeneza came in fifth position with 1hour 2 minutes and 22seconds, while Alexis Nizeyimana finished in seventh position after clocking 1hour 2 minutes and 56seconds.Last year, Kajuga finished third and had promised an improved performance this time round, but he only settled for fourth position this year.In the men’s full marathon, despite the absence of last year’s winner, Kenyan Paul Kosjei, who clocked 2 hour 14 minutes and 56 seconds, Kenya swept the first six positions.This time it was Barnabas Kipyego, who made sure Kenya remained on top after he won the full marathon and took Rwf1.3m, Kilimo Julius Kipkorir was second and got Rwf1.2m while Limo Peter Kibet followed in third position and walked away with Rfw1m. Meanwhile, Ethiopians clinched a 1-2 sweep in the women full marathon with Faye Mosjsa Dabele leading the way ahead of Ayam Tigist Teshome and Kenya’s Too Fridah Jepkite Lodep finishing third.By press time the winners had been known but the time each used was still being withheld awaiting confirmation from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).Rwanda didn’t have athletes in the full marathon for both men and women. This year’s edition attracted a far less number of participants than the organisers had expected.
