The first time in the air

Honestly, when you don’t know something, it’s better to ask than to do something and look stupid. This makes me think of my first experience in a plane. Well, I checked in and followed some old lady until she got on the plane. When it was time to sit, she sat next to someone else and I had to find my way. I panicked as the air hostess came around asking what everyone wanted. I looked at the tray that was filled with lots of food but the moment she asked me to take my pick; I quickly refrained from taking anything. She insisted on giving me a soft drink but I still declined the offer. Then she asked, “Are you sure?” I replied, “Hey I don’t have the money to pay for anything, I am good.” Everyone stared at me as I listened to the hostess telling me that food was part of the ticket fare. I quickly covered my head till we got to Entebbe airport where we were supposed to board another plane. Having many relatives in Uganda, I called them to pick me up since my flight was the next morning. I figured planes don’t fly at night; I mean, can they see well? So I headed off and slept till the next morning. Since my cousin wanted to come, I told her it was so okay. I would carry her on my lap like I always do in the taxi. When I got to the airport, I got lost a little but then found the right place. Imagine my misery when I found out that we were supposed to board the other plane an hour after landing. The attendant looked at me in amusement when I asked her what time the plane would fill up yet my ticket was even expired. Then she asked me about the child I was with and I told her she would sit next to me since there was a lot of space in the plane. She looked at me and I could see that she wanted to burst into laughter but politely didn’t. After going back home and telling my story, I realised I was such a joke.
