SOUTHERN PROVINCE MUHANGA — Ugandan artist, Ziggy Dee has started to stage charity concerts to raise funds for street children and other vulnerable people in Rwanda. Ziggy Dee, who arrived in the country recently, started his concert in Gitarama, Muhanga District last weekend. He told The New Times during an exclusive interview on Wednesday, that his concerts are also aimed at promoting Rwandan young artists in a bid to raise the status of entertainment in Rwanda. He is also scheduled to perform in Butare town. He has also expressed intensions of launching his new album in Kigali. “Rwanda has a big potential of competing within the East African Community and I am here to explore ways of helping young artists in the country,” he said. He added, “However, I love children and I intend to help street children and other vulnerable persons through charity music shows. I look at this as a chance to contribute to a fast growing nation after the genocide.” During his July 27 Gitarama concert, he performed with Rwandan artists including; 2DoveJoe, Diane Muteteri, Mc Tino, and Mzee Gakuru. He said that Rwandan artists are talented and have the potential of raising the standard of music in the East African Community. He offered to act as their Music Ambassador in the region. “Sing and dance with us so we can build East Africa together. Let’s build a new nation without street kids, and create awareness in society about the killer diseases like HIV/Aids and STDS through acting and singing, because Artists can make a change,” he remarked in his message during the Gitarama show. He also noted that: “We need each ones support by valuing what we can do at home because there is no place like home- one love, one family-one home. And there is need for oneness to support our governments by cooperating with the authority to create room for development and understanding of the people.” Ziggy Dee explained that he has loves working with the Rwandan community and will produce a song in Kinyarwanda, featuring Radio Flash presenter-Mc Tino and the video will be shot in Rwanda.
