Rwanda Football Association (Ferwafa) president Celestin Ntagungira, alias Abega, has been appointed on the Fifa Referees’ Commission for the 2013 U20 World Cup slated for June 21 through July 13 in Turkey.The former Rwanda international assistant referee, was also last year entrusted with a role in the development of football on the global stage by the world governing body.Athanase Nkubito, another Rwandan, will be the match commissioner of the 2014 World Cup qualifier between Tanzania and Ivory Coast, while assistant referee Felicien Kabanda will be charge of the Zimbabwe against Egypt qualifier next month.Abega was elected in November 2011 to lead the Rwanda Football Association on an interim basis following the resignation of Brig. Gen. Jean Bosco Kazura.Abega is also a CAF’s referees’ instructor for Eastern and Central African region.Abega stands out as the country’s most decorated referee after officiating at two Fifa World Cups, three Africa Nations Cup, two World Club Championships, two U-20 youth championships, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and several other continental and regional tournaments.
