Gakenke District teachers tipped on professionalism

The Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Mathias Harebamungu has urged teachers in Gakenke District to uphold professional ethics to improve education standards in the district.Harebamungu (Pictured) was addressing over 140 teachers after a three-day retreat to chart ways of improving the quality of education in the area.“We urge teachers to be more professional in their job by preparing lesson plans before going to class. We also ask teachers’ representatives to ensure teachers put into practice all what is required and encourage them to learn English language ,” said Harebamungu.He also advised teachers to increase tests for students as part of efforts to prepare them for national examinations.Jilberte Mukakalisa, a director of Nemba Primary School said they would ensure that teachers interact with students and they follow the teaching timetable.Teachers representatives at Sector level pledged to work closely with their colleagues to improve the quality of education while working with local leaders and parents to decrease the number of school dropouts in the district.The district mayor, Deogratias Nzamwita, said the retreat was productive and looked forward to improved quality of education in the district.“We target good results. We agreed to reach 80 per cent pass rate but we look forward to having 100 per cent pass. I hope we can achieve this, thanks to commitment of teachers,” said Nzamwita.
