Rwanda gets new World Bank country director

The world Bank has appointed Diarietou Gaye the new Rwanda country director, replacing Johannes Zutt, who moves to Bangladesh and Nepal.A Senegalese, Gaye, will also work as the World Bank country director for Kenya and Eritrea, the World Bank said in a statement.She assumed her new position on May 1 and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.Gaye has served as country director for the Maldives and Sri Lanka.“Gaye brings to her new position a series of accomplishments as an economist, manager and leader. She has had extensive operational experience in different institutions, working on development and policy change in difficult contexts.She received a Good Manager Award from the Staff Association in 2005,” the statement said.Gaye joined the bank in January 1996 as a senior country economist after serving in the Senegalese Ministry of Economy and Finance.She has since held various positions, including being the country manager for Benin and Togo.Between 2007 and 2010, she served as regional director for East African countries with the African Development Bank.Her main priority will be to develop, jointly with the Governments, the bank’s new country partnership strategy for the countries.
