Champions’ league tempted Hitimana

Former Atraco skipper Omar Hitimana, who has been yearning for Champions League football has finally achieved his dream after signing a one-year contract worth $5000 (Frw2.7m) with Uganda football giants Kampala City Council (KCC). The Rwandan international confirmed to Times Sport yesterday by telephone from the Ugandan capital Kampala that he has committed his future to the Kasasiro boys for the next one season. “It’s a good deal to be on KCC squad for next year’s season which will see me feature in the Uganda Super league, Kakungulu, Cecafa Club championship as well as African Champions League. “I have always wanted to be among the champions and I think God has answered my prayers,” Hitimana said. The former U-20 captain further noted that he wants to use his time with the Ugandan champions to earn a recall to Amavubi Stars. “Though I was never summoned for the 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifiers, I will not give up. I must concentrate and win the attention whatever the case,’ Hitimana said. Hitimana has been on Rayon Sport shopping list but the defender turned down the blues’ offer after what he described ‘the lack interest from Rayon administrators’. “I was called by coach Raoul (Shungu) to come and feature for the blues ahead of the Cecafa/Kagame Cup but they never showed interest in me when I came in Rwanda, a week ago. “It’s my manager (Mugib Kasule) who proposed that I join KCC instead of Rayon and am grateful for his fine advice,” he stated. Hitimana signed a one-year contract with another Ugandan side Express Fc and it expired in May this year and he now joins KCC, a club that has won seven Ugandan league title and eight Kakungulu Cups. KCC was the first Ugandan side to win the Cecafa Clubs Cup in 1978 and made their first semi-final appearance in the CAF Cup in 1997. The club is strengthening the squad ahead of the start of the Uganda Super League season and will be Uganda’s representatives in next year’s MTN African Champions League. Ends
