Luanda. Rebels who have been fighting for the independence of Angola’s oil-rich territory of Cabinda are planning to lay down arms and re-negotiate with the government, state media reported.The Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (Flec), has fought for independence for several decades before opting for a ceasefire in 2006.Cabinda, which is located 383 kilometres north of the capital Luanda, is Angola’s smallest province, covering 7,000 km/sq.It borders the Republic of Congo to the north and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to the east and south.The oil-rich region continues to demand its independence from Angola, claiming it is marginalised and exploited.
