Rayon have one hand on the title

Rayon Sport head coach Didier Gomez da Roza believes the national league title is his team’s to lose after their all-important 1-0 win over Isonga on Sunday at the Amahoro stadium.The win moved the Blues three points ahead of second-placed Police, who drew 0-0 with Muhanga with only four rounds of matches remaining.Burundian international Fuadi Ndayisenga netted the only goal in the first half to secure all three points for the Nyanza-based side, who are looking for their seventh league title and the first in eight years.The Frenchman, who has had the best possible impact any new coach would wish for since joining the club in January, says the destiny of the title is in his team’s hands but is not ready to celebrate yet.“We need to remain focused and try to win our remaining games without worrying much about what happens elsewhere. Winning the league remains our target and we can’t afford to take our foot off the gas because anything can happen between now and end of the season,” Gomez said after Sunday’s game.He added: “I am happy with a win because we played against a good young side, who gave their best to win the game because they are playing for their lives to stay in the division, but we were focused throughout and I must congratulate my players.” Second-placed Police FC dropped crucial points at home against visitors AS Muhanga in a game which ended in a goalless draw at Kicukiro turf.Rayon Sport still have to face Etincelles, Musanze, Muhanga and Espoir, while Police have got Amagaju, AS Kigali, Musanze and Espoir.Rayon lead the table with 48 points, three better than Police. Defending champions APR are third with 39 points and effectively out of the title race. Isonga and Etincelles occupy the bottom two places with 15 and 14 points, respectively, and both are hot favourites to drop to the second division.
