‘Four Minutes’ pulls big crowd

Ishyo Arts Centre theatre may be famous for music performances, but the venue isn’t just for music lovers but also cinema goers. Thanks to Goethe-Institut for hosting movie nights every Tuesday.Local movie lovers flocked to Ishyo in Kacyiru on April 23, for “Four Minutes”, a German film with English subtitles.‘Four Minutes’ or ‘Vier Minuten’, a 112 minute movie, revolves around gifted international pianist Jenny Von Loeben--in somewhat unusual circumstances--a bad past has landed her in jail. The story takes place in a women’s prison where piano lessons are given by Frau TraudeKruegeraa hired tutor, who is not without her own biases and soiled past. These two characters, with their unconventional behaviour, make a surprisingly good pairing. However, the movie plot is made complex when fellow inmates become jealous, apparently because of the exceptional treatment Jenny gets from the piano tutor, and therefore start sabotaging all her endeavours. This movie is a must watch because it does not take the mushy, predictable path movies of this nature tend to take.“This film hints about an important life aspect, of being able to exhibit a high level of creativity, self-expression, and psychological survival in extremely difficult circumstances,” shared Dr. Peter Stepan, the Director Goethe-Institut.“After watching this movie ,I have learnt that one should not give up hope ,however bad their life circumstance may be ,Jenny is inspiring because, she tries to live an ordinary life, by doing all things she was passionate about before being put under custody,” said Jessica Uwamahoro, after watching the movie.Goethe-Institut organises free movie nights every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
