Genocide memorial in Manchester

THE RWANDAN community in Manchester, UK, gathered at the weekend to pay their respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.More than a hundred people, including Rwandans, friends of Rwanda as well as members of the diplomatic corps, took part in the commemoration event in Eccles, Manchester.Speaking at the event, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to the UK, William Nkurunziza, reiterated the ‘Never Again’ resolve and urged the world to make efforts to ensure that Genocide never happens anywhere again.Amb. Nkurunziza told mourners that the Genocide was a result of bad leadership. He, however, noted that since the Genocide, Rwanda embarked on a new journey of socio-economic transformation, which has restored hope.Noel Ntakirutimana, the representative of Rwandans living in Manchester, said the commemoration event will be held annually as a way of keeping memories of the victims alive.
