Tunisia's US Monastir arrived in Kigali on Thursday morning ahead of the CAF Champions league tie against APR on Saturday at Huye Stadium in Huye District. US Monastir and APR will meet in the CAF Champions League first round on Saturday August 10 while the second leg is slated for Tunisia a week later. The team immediately went to Huye and will hold training sessions at Kamena and Huye Stadiums respectively Thursday and Friday while APR has been in Huye since Wednesday. “APR is a big team in Rwanda and is respected internationally. I am satisfied with the level of preparedness. We are going to work hard against US Monastir on Saturday,” Captain Djabel Manishimwe said. The winner of the double header will lock horns with Egypt’s Al Ahly in the next round. Last season, APR FC dropped from the CAF Champions League to the Confederation Cup where they were eliminated 2-1 on aggregate by eventual winners RS Berkane. APR has never reached the CAF champions league group stage since making their debut in 1997. APR FC’s biggest success in the history of African club tournaments was in the 2002/2003 season where they reached the semifinals of then Cup Winners Cup.
