The president of National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC) has said that the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi forms the country’s history and should not be forgotten.“Genocide is our history. We cannot assume it never happened nor can it be the history of colonisers who sowed seed of hatred among Rwandans. It is our history,” Bishop John Rucyahana said while addressing hundreds of Musanze district residents this week.He said Rwandans should feel the pain of killing their relatives and those denying Genocide should stop it, adding that Rwandans should tell the truth of what happened as a way towards reconciliation. He asked residents to challenge Genocide deniers who claim that Genocide was a result of the plane crash involving former president Juvenal Habyarimana, saying it started before, in 1990.Bishop Rucyahana also visited Musanze Prison where he delivered a similar message, urging inmates to repent and help re build unity and reconciliation. The mayor of Musanze district, Winfrida Mpembyemungu, called on residents and prisoners to strive for self reliance while building the culture of unity and reconciliation.
