RWANDA REPRESENTATIVES in CAVB Women Club Championships, APR lost 3-0 to Ahly of Egypt for the semifinal qualification match on Tuesday night.Al Ahly secured the semifinal spot following their 25-18, 25-15, and 25-20 victory over APR in a match that last 64 minutes.APR played their best in the third set and started to arrange their attacks through Brigitte Mutakwampuwe and Atim to lead several times till 21-18 when they committed several mistakes that cost them to lose the set and the match 0-3.The competition was stopped for a minute of silence to celebrate the memorial of the victims of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide against Tutsi.Elsewhere, Algeria’s GS Petroliers qualified after beating Ndejje University (Uganda) 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-20), while their compatriots MB Bejaia overwhelmed FAP (Cameroon) 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-15). Prisons took over pipeline 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-14, and 25-20).Ahly will now take on GS Petroliers while MB Bejaia face Prisons for a place in the final. The winners of the tournament will move on to the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship later this year. APR will play against Ndejje University Uganda for the fifth position.In the Play off positions 9 to 16 Stef Auto (Madagascar), Water Sports (Ethiopia) and Kutlwano (Botswana) won their matches against VB Diamand (Madagascar), Manga Sport (Gabon) and Les AS (Burundi) respectively to advance to play for 9 to 12 standings with the already qualified AS Tanda (Cote d’Ivoire) leaving the loser for the 12 to 16 brackets.
