Starting tomorrow, Sunday, April 7, it is going to be a long week of mourning. We shall be remembering those who died during the 1994 Genocide. The government has chosen gray as the official colour for the mourning period. Of course you may not wear gray to office everyday but you can alternate it with other dark colours. These include black, brown, gray, dark purple, navy blue and army green. These can be worn anywhere; both in and outside office. Usually, when mourning, bright colours send a wrong message to the people around you; therefore, if you can, try and avoid them. Black skin colour body stockingsThese will come in handy if you want to wear your short dress or skirt but still want to cover up. The make upTraditionally, Africans never wore make up when they were mourning. The times have changed but you may want to keep your make up light and simple. You can use lip balm to keep your lips fresh and free from chirping. JewelleryI think this dress code applies to the jewellery. You can still wear jewellery but go for the subtle dark colours – colours that won’t beg for attention.
