Jean-Baptiste Hakizimana is ready to hit the course for the MTN mug of the month of March at the par 72 Kitante golf course on Saturday. Speaking to Times Sport yesterday, Hakizimana said that he wants to improve his career by taking part in different tournaments staged in the region as well as in Africa. “I want to do my best and compete in so many competitions so as to improve. MTN mug is a good platform to elevate my profession and I hope to display good performance,” added Hakizimana. Hakizimana who finished runner-up to Emmanuel Ruterana in this month’s Rwanda Open, scooped second position in the Crane Bank-Kabale Easter open held at Kabale Sports Club last weekend. He was tied in second position by a stroke with Uganda’s Deo Akope after grossing 144 in the professional category. Herman Mutaawe who grossed 143 over the two day action won the biggest share of the sh6m [Rwf. 1.5m] professionals’ purse. Hakizimana who won the final MTN Mug of Mug competition in December last year will face stiff challenge from Akope, Mutawe, Dennis Anguyo, Brian Toolit and Vincent Byamukama. The monthly golf tournaments are bankrolled by tournaments climax at the end of the year with the best being crowned the Pro Series and walking away with a hefty cheque from the sponsors.
