Don’t misuse the ‘free’ time you have in the holidays

Just before the end of the term you will obviously lay down a strategic plan of how you will utilise the holiday to its fullest. Discuss with friends or get your elder siblings to tutor you in the subjects where you need help. But in reality when the holiday starts many forget all these plans and fail to read any books. The big plan quickly changes to endless moments in front of the TV, loitering around with your friends and of course wasting time on Facebook where you just go to look at photos from your friends and have pointless conversations. All said and done, you do not have to waste your holiday just like that and then go back to school full of regrets. Here are a couple of other resourceful things you could do with your time. Get involvedThe common song today is that of empowering the youth all the time. Well, it’s your chance to get empowered and build your CV at an early age. Your community or church could be organising an event for the youth. Lend a hand. There is a charity event somewhere close by and you are familiar with the organisers, why not help out? These things actually add up to the person you will be in the near future. Join workshops There are many workshops that take place these days whether on literacy, information technology and so on. These workshops do teach a lot more than what you learn at school. Many times the participants are issued with certificates and this could count for something when you are hunting for a job later. Try learning a new languageObviously one holiday isn’t enough to learn a new language, but even a journey of 1000 miles starts with one step, so take the holiday to start the journey to becoming a bilingual. The world is now one global village and knowing an extra language (preferably from a country with good economic ties with Rwanda) builds your CV and widens your market and success possibilitiesTake up a new hobbyNever had professional diving classes, never played a guitar? Now is the time to start. Holidays can be boring but you can spice them up by embarking on such projects. Nothing should stop you as you develop new skills. And you never know where this could lead to but it will certainly be a good road to take. Feed your talentsAre you talented at art? Or perhaps singing? Enter some competitions and get your talent noticed. Not only is it a good boost to your confidence, but getting your work noticed by a wide audience is a good way to network.Think seriously about what you will be tomorrow Well, you’re not young anymore as long as you took your time to read all this. So take off some time, take a walk on a quiet path around your home and ponder about what the future holds for you. I strongly suggest you think of a university where you would like to study and how you will get there, the course you really feel like you want to do (not necessarily the one your parents want you to do) and the how you can get the course. There is so much more that you can do with your holiday just make sure it is productive.
