IFAK School wins taxation competition

Institute De Formation Apostolique De Kimihurura (IFAK) has emerged the best at a taxation competition organised by Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA). The competition held at Telecom House comes ahead of plans to introduce taxation as a subject in secondary schools. RRA however says the competition is to create awareness among the young generation about taxation issues. “We want to know whether the young generation is aware of taxation issues so that we can impart more knowledge. This way, we will have good and compliant tax payers in future,” Mary Baine, RRA Commissioner General said. She also added that RRA will hold more competitions as a corporate social responsibility. Daphrose Gahakwa, the Minister of Education was very impressed that students know so much about taxation. According to the minister, this is the fifth time the authority has contributed towards supporting education in the country. “I urge you to go back and help your parents and fellow students understand the purpose of taxation such that in the near future our country may be completely financially independent,” she told the students. IFAK School won cash prize of Frw300, 000, Saint Andre was given Frw250, 000 while Apred Ndera got Frw250, 000. Students’ comments Christian Kamanzi, from IFAK said that the cash prize will be banked to help needy students. “I believe this money will benefit some students in our school, especially those who are not able to clear their dues,” he said. Fred Karangwa, from Apred Ndera said he will educate his fellow students on taxation. “I have learnt a lot from this competition. I hope RRA and ministry of education organize more. I actually think our generation will make the best tax payers,” he said while smiling from ear to ear in appreciation. Ends
