Rwanda Amateur Boxing Association, Raba have lined up a friendly bout with their Ugandan counterparts, Times Sport has learnt. The event scheduled for next month will be the first competitive event for the local boxers since their faltering display during the Beijing Olympics qualifiers that were staged in Namibia back in March. “We have contacted the Ugandan boxing federation and are waiting for their response,” the federation’s technical director Gashugi Kananura said before adding that. “Competitive categories during this tournament will range from welter weight, light weight and feather weight amongst others”. In Namibia, Rwanda was part of 28 countries that entered the Windhoek tournament. However, to their dismay, the country’s Beijing hopes were shattered when she failed to secure a slot at the 29 Olympic vacancies that were up for grabs. The country’s quartet of Pascal Sibomana, Jean Claude Gatorano, Jean Morris Bikorimana and David Nsabimana who were part of 145 boxers present at the competition had premature exits after being knocked out in the preliminary round.
