Editor,This is with reference to the story, “Fire destroys goods at Simba Supermarket”, (The New Times, March 21).A few weeks ago, I read a newspaper article that talked about some government initiative through the Ministry of Refugees and Disaster Management, I presume, to submit a ministerial draft about fire safety regulations to cabinet. It is a shame that people/businesses should wait for a law before they think about prevention. The same article highlighted a Kigali-based company, Kigali Mugolds International Ltd, which does exactly that; fire-fighting and prevention services. It is time for government to enact a fire prevention policy.K.
