King James rides high with new gospel tune

JAMES Ruhumuriza, popularly known as King James, is a 23-year-old R&B singer who started his music career while still in high school. His first song Intinyi, released in 2009, didn’t do much to catapult him into the spotlight but it helped him launch his music career. A year later, he released his debut album titled Umugisha (Blessing), which spawned hits like Kuko Turi Kumwe, Naratomboye, Mwarakoze, Harabura Iki (featuring Princess Priscilla) and many others. In 2011, he released his second album titled Umuvandimewe (Brother), which helped him scoop four Salax awards last year for Best R&B Artiste, Best Male Artiste, Best Album and Artist of the Year. His latest song Mana Ndagukunda (God I Love you) is a Kinyarwanda gospel track that leans towards soft rock. He sings: “He, who trust in your name will never be ashame /Let me use the voice you gave me to thank you and promise to always love you…” The video clip that accompanies the song is also as simple as the audio. And the success of this song is a clear indication that King James was cut out to be a gospel artist.
