NORTHERN PROVINCE GICUMBI — Trade exhibition is a symbol of good governance and economic revolution in of Rwanda’s economy, a provincial official said. Governor Boniface Rucagu made the remarks while closing a one-week Northern Province mini trade show held in Byumba town of Gicumbi district this weekend. He called upon exhibitors to increase production of agricultural and livestock farming products to guarantee food security and uplift Rwanda’s economy. During the same function, Governor Rucagu presided over prize giving ceremony to the best exhibitors. The prizes were offered by the (PSF). Companies including OCIR-Café, Rushaki honey manufacturers’ cooperative society and Gicumbi district received gold medals, while Mulindi Tea farmers, Gakenke and Burera districts received bronze medals. The remaining districts of Rulindo and Musanze were awarded certificates of attendance. Promoters of the show who included Northern Province, MTN and BRALIRWA were also awarded special sealed gifts. On the other hand the national water and power supply utility ELECTROGAZ, the national police and the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) were given certificates of merit for their contribution to make the show a success story to tell. “Those who did not perform well should work hard to become the best exhibitors in the next show,” Rucagu said. In his address, the Secretary General for PSF Emmanuel Hategeka briefed participants about the history of the East African Community (EAC) urging producers to increase production in order to reap benefits from the five-member economic bloc. “You should increase production of industrial and agricultural products because there is a wide common market from EAC member states,” Hategeka said.
