Editor,THIS IS a reaction to Harold Brown’s commentary, “Why Europe is turning into Africa’s big brother (The New Times, March 7).This kind of conceit that takes it for granted that we Africans will allow our region to become a stage on which the West can play out their games of geopolitical chess needs to be nipped in the bud!The author should be advised that we do not require their attentions and that if they stopped meddling in our affairs and minded their own business instead of wanting to exploit our resources, there would probably be no anti-Western extremism and terrorism. On the contrary, his proposed agenda for US-western Europe interventions will only ensure perpetual African instability and never-ending threats of blowbacks for the meddlers. Can these people ever get it even after their Libyan campaign’s fallout across the entire Sahel?Or was that very instability an inherent part of the calculus that was intended to provide the necessary justification for a return to a Neo -colonial control of African resources through beefed up military garrisons?Mwene Kalinda, KigaliJkalinda@gmail.com
