Editor, This letter is with reference to the lead story titled “ First Lady pays tribute to Profemme.” (The New Times, March 3).Please allow me to congratulate Jeanne d’Arc Kanakuze, President, Profemme Twese Hamwe , and her team for having achieved much and having done a commendable job to improve the status of women , while promoting the culture of peace and capacity building among member associations.Profemme started with a modest number of 13 associations but has grown to 58 today. This , in itself reflects the immense value that has been provided to member organisations and the keen desire for women organisations to come under the Profemme umbrella.Rwanda has the highest number of women Members of Parliament in the world. This would not have been possible without organisations like the Imbuto Foundation and Profemme Twese Hamwe.India Week 2013 , which is scheduled to be held in Kigali during the second half of May this year will have a dedicated Women Empowerment Forum , as one of the many activities planned. We would be very pleased to work closely with Profemme which has helped in empowering women socially , economically and morally in this beautiful land of a thousand hills and a million smiles.Clarence Fernandes
