The inaugural ‘Cogebanque Sports Day’ tournament held at Cercle Sportif de Kigali over the weekend left Team West dominating the prizes after they were crowned champions in both basketball and football competitions. The one-day tournament was organized by Cogebanque as part of encouraging the bank employees to practice sports including volleyball, basketball, swimming and football among others. Team West, which is made up of Cogebanque staff from bank branches in the Western, were dominant during the tournament, winning two trophies in football and basketball while Team East were crowned champions in Volleyball. Team West won the football competition after beating Team East 3-1 before making it a double of titles after again beating Team East 43-25 in Basketball. Team East took some revenge against Team West when they defeated them 3-0 to win the volleyball trophy. In swimming, Dieudonné Rukundo emerged winner in the 50-meter race while Joselyne Iradukunda won the 25-meter race in the women's category. Reflecting on the purpose of the tournament, Cogebanque Human Resources Manager Jean Bosco Rwelinyange said that all the competitions were organized to help employees stay healthy, and productive as well as to socialize. “Besides having inter-bank competitions in August, we organize these games in order to help and encourage our employees to bond, maintain a healthy lifestyle and hence boost their productivity at work.,” Rwelinyange said. “It also helps us get to know each other and understand that we are all working towards the same goal. The teams that will represent Cogebanque have been asked to perform well in order to give us the pride of winning trophies.” After a successful Cogebanque Sports Day tournament, the bank is also in final preparations for the seventh edition of the Cogebanque Tennis Open which is due from July 7-15 at Cercle Sportif de Kigali.
