Management and Consultancy law currently in Parliament is in the interest of regulating consultancy firms as well as eliminate fake consultants, an official said.Anne Mugabo, the Director General of Employment and Labour in the Ministry of Public Service and Labour, made the remarks on Friday during a one-day meeting with professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities prevailing in the East African Community.Her remarks followed concerns that there were many mushrooming consultancy firms with no credible track record.“If the law is out, all those calling themselves experts and lack credibility will stop,” the official said.Mugabo observed that some buildings in the country end up collapsing and kill innocent people due to unprofessional engineers who normally construct such buildings.“There are architects who normally use house plans downloaded from internet and the structure ends up collapsing. However, if the law is out every professional who will not be registered under the body will definitely not be tolerated,” she noted.She pointed out that some people use fake documents while bidding for tenders in government institutions, noting such bidders are among the consultants who do shoddy work.An optical consultant who preferred anonymity welcomed the move saying such unscrupulous consultancies were affecting the industry.“There some who call themselves consultants, they normally move within Kigali offering cheap consultancy works and this has been a challenge to us,” he said.The draft law is currently in Parliament.
