Dear EditorThis is a reaction to the article, “RwandAir could be privatised in 2015 as Umubano deal drags on,” (The New Times, January 25, 2013).From 130,000 to 400,000 passengers in under three years? Wow, that is not an easy feat. Congratulations to John Mirenge (the airline’s Chief Executive Officer) and his entire team. Don’t think about profits in the short term. The return on investment will be realised in the long term. And, who knows, once efficiently managed and run, there may be no need to sell the airline. Again, this company has gone through challenges, and while the first alternative is to sell, this is proof that with efficient management, a turn around is possible. To see such growth in a competitive sector- with a total of seven new airlines operating in the country’s airspace in the last few years - should serve as motivation to work harder. The message Rwandans and friends of Rwanda is; lets support this airline by flying Rwandair. The company can also do better advertising as we have seen with other airlines to attract more passengers.
