After going hard till 4:00am in the morning, I realised I had an important CAT (continuous assessment) at 8:00am so I styled up and went to bed. Now I understand the reason why people stay in bars till morning, when someone else is buying the drinks for you, you may never want to leave. But when you are digging into your own pockets, more so spending on others, all you think about is how long it will take you to squeeze through the men’s bathroom window and exit the joint! I managed to get home and set the alarm for 7:00am before I blacked out on my bed. It seemed like the bloody alarm went off almost as soon as I shut my eyes. More shocking is that it woke up the people in the neighboring room instead. But after endless bangs on my door, I was forced to wake up and apologise to them – contemplating with half closed eyes the idea of jumping back into bed. Remembering the importance of this CAT I showered hurriedly and ran to school. I can tell you now, the hangover I had was deadly, I literally couldn’t tell which way I was going. Thinking I got the room number right, I entered some room with a lot of confidence, pretending I had been there all along. Five minutes later, I had the answer sheet with my name well written on it in front of me. The question paper was turned upside down before the invigilator shouted “Tangira”. Clearly English is a big problem here. I turn the question paper over and saw very strange things. Oh my God! I didn’t read enough, was the thought that run through my mind. I tried to fidget with the numbers but nothing seemed to work. I tried to console myself that had it not been that hang over, I would have been able to answer all the questions with ease. The only thing left to do was to look out for the usual suspects, the ones always bleak in every exam…that was my only consolation. But when I looked around, the faces were even stranger than the exam. I closed my eyes for a jiffy and opened them again, hoping to see better this time and it was the same sight. My sanity started coming back, and I looked at the sheet again, only to realise I was in a different faculty and room! The look on my face was priceless! For a moment I didn’t know what to do so I held my papers tight and since I was seated right next to the door, I tipped toed out before the invigilator noticed. But just as I was about to get out, a face turned to see who was sneaking out and it turned out to be some chick I’m hitting on. Really? She hardly notices me on campus but when she does it’s when I’m sneaking out of a test? Don’t ask how it ended but it’s pretty much worse than you imagine.
