8,000 children to benefit from special English classes

SOUTHERN PROVINCE NYARUGURU — Over 8,000 children in Nyaruguru district are expected to benefit from the special English language programs. These programmes are meant to groom the children to be competent enough to join the East African Community (EAC). The official event to introduce these programmes was launched by Elayano International Ministries, a Christian Non-profit organization, based in Muhanga district, over the weekend at Ngazo Primary School, Kibeho sector. The launch attracted local government officials, teachers and parents and the beneficiaries presented English poems, and songs learnt from the two months. Marie-Espérance Nyirandarage, the Director of Elayono, said that, “The program targets rural pupils and through mutual support, the community raises funds to have the children attain language skills during holidays and weekends”. Nyirandarage urged the local leaders and parents to integrate the program into their development goals and performance contracts in order to have harvest enhanced output. Local leaders and parents requested for the extension of the project to adults and commended the input of Elayono Ministries in expanding language skills in the young generation. Fourteen thousand children have been targeted in Nyaruguru district and according to Elayono officials there is need to sensitize parents on the value of empowering their children with language proficiency. Elayono programs operate in Kamonyi, Huye and Nyaruguru district in the Southern Province. So far 20,000 pupils have enrolled in the program and the program will be extended to Karongi district, western province soon. Ends
