Govt launches voluntary national service

The government is today expected to launch a voluntarily national service programme (Urugerero) that will see Rwandans, who have undergone an informal civic education programme helping in realising several developmental initiatives. The programme, dubbed ‘Urugerero’, is an ancient, home-baked custom that has been resurrected and incorporated into the society, spearheaded by Itorero National Taskforce. According to the chairman of the Itorero National Taskforce, Boniface Rucagu, the launch of the programme is scheduled to take place in Kigarama Sector, Rwamagana District and will draw about 40,730 Intore who underwent the training. Awareness campaign on dangers of HIV/Aids, conducting a mini census of illiterate people and constructing houses for teachers will be done are part of the activities to be conducted at the launch. “We sensitise the public about the zero new HIV infections, while all districts are expected to come up with their programmes,” Rucagu (pictured) said.
