Judiciary doing a great job, albeit under-reported

Dear Editor,The New Times, you are doing a great service taking the public through Leon Mugesera’s trial as you do in other high profile cases. But forgive me for alleging that your high profile definition has become narrower and narrower while it should be widening. There are cases of fighting corruption, land disputes, labour relations, cyber crime, child abuse, rights of women, enforcement of contracts, procurement, human rights abuse, landlord-tenancy, insurance liability, negligence, service delivery, money laundering, bank foreclosures....which are heard and determined day by day in the very courts where your reporters spend a lot of time. Trust me our courts are doing a great job on these matters- be it fairly and quickly resolving them, resolving them in big numbers and very good quality and availing judgments in time. Our courts and prosecution institutions are doing a great job of service delivery including electronic filing of cases 24/7 in almost all courts connected to the network. You can now track your case from anywhere on earth. This is a first in East Africa and probably beyond. Kindly report on those cases on land service improvements as well. There is a large interest group out there consisting of investors and prospective investors, traders, tenants, lawmakers, government officials, service providers, political parties and politicians, youth, women, local government and the population in general. For each segment of the population, there is crucial information, there is a lesson to learn, there is a law to amend, and there is a warning to pick up. For the EDPRS and Vision 2020 there is the Rule of Law to continually showcase. So, while you cannot afford to miss out on the Mugesera and Uwinkindi trials, please also add the current issues of justice which appeal to the different segments of our society.Hope, Mile 40, Nyamirambo, Kigali
