Tekkle Musie, the winner of Premier Model Men’s Category, has said that his recent win was an eye opener.Musie, 23, a second year Business Information Technology student at Mt Kenya University, emerged the winner of the annual model competition organised by Rwanda Premier Model Agency after beating twelve other contestants. “I started as a dancer. But I have realised that I can make one of the best models out there basing on my latest achievement,” said Musie.He is confident that he has what it takes not only to contribute to the development of modelling industry in Rwanda but also on the global scene.“My decision to take part in the recent competition was not to win and later give-up. I want to use this opportunity to get connected to designers from Rwanda and abroad,” he told The New Times on Tuesday.He expressed concern that the media was not doing enough to promote male models as compared to their female counterparts.Jean Claude Ndayishimiye, the Chief Executive Officer of Rwanda Premier Model Agency urged the media to give equal opportunities to upcoming models.“From my own experience, I am sure that boys are as capable as girls in becoming good models. Therefore if we are to build or develop this industry, we have to work together,” he said.
