Dear editor, To achieve excellence in schools, children do not necessarily have to be pumped with excess material. Just like a fuse that is overloaded it will eventually blow up. In most schools around, students are trained to cram everything without understanding what they are doing. In this way practical skills are not imparted onto them and as a result they fail to perform when they reach in higher institutions of learning and their respective fields. All schools and universities should try to adopt practical methods of teaching that will enable students to apply what they have learnt in daily life activities. Remember the future lies in the hands of the young generations. Not equipping them will slow and block the fast development of the country. Ndera
