WESTERN PROVINCE RUSIZI — A group of 82 secondary school teachers have received training on how to promote and improve civil education. The two-day seminar organized by the Rwanda Human Rights Commission (RHRC) together with the Ministry of Education (MINEDU) was conducted last week in Kamembe sector in Rusizi district. Maitre Nkongoli, the Commissioner of RHRC urged trainees to always struggle for the promotion of civil education and human rights through teaching. “You as secondary school teachers have the responsibility and ability to change the attitudes and culture of the youth and the whole society should always work with RHRC and our government in general in improving and promoting civil education and human rights in the region through sensitizing and mobilize all students and resident on these issues” Nkongoli urged. He also encouraged participants to always promote justice and fight against injustice and to protect the human rights of each and every resident in the area. He also urged them to report any injustice case to the nearby security authorities in time. He also said that the rule of law should be respected. Participants were encouraged to promote equality, liberty and freedom in the region and to fight against genocide ideology and any other racial discrimination in the area. The teachers were asked to always work as human rights watchdogs in their respective jobs. Ends
