IT’S okay to have pride, everyone needs a particular measure of it, and the rewards that come along possessing it are quite many. Pride will give one a sense of importance; a proud individual will always want to be seen by his friends as a better party at everything, so they will work very hard to prove that, and one of the drills they embark on, to sustain the “invincible” image, is personal development. They will read all motivational and self-help books that exist in stalls, so as to get armed with the tips, the instructions of survival, those that will keep them on the edge, on top of murky waters . So books like “How to get rich before 30”, “How to boost one’s self confidence”, “Becoming a knowledge bank”, may become the centre of attention. Pride also somehow helps people preserve their human dignity. The dark side of pride greatly borders on arrogance. The causes of immoderate pride vary, for some it’s inborn, naturally built in their system, and therefore usually hard to break. For others its acquired, for example if one is a big-time achiever in their respective career, or there is too much wealth under their name, or they come to learn from public opinion that they have excellent physical looks, these and many other similar life aspects will increase their self confidence, and if not checked, may graduate into immoderate pride or arrogance overtime. A person with immoderate pride will want to be seen as perfect, the “I have it all “type even when they have so many flaws, so what they do is highlight attention to their strengths then bury or mask their weaknesses. Their true selves will remain strange to the public; they will live in denial, never admitting their weak points. However people with this kind of pride, forget the kind of saying, which may be old and tired, but still universally relevant, “No man is an island”, no one ever stands alone forever, we all need each other’s company and support, but with this kind of attitude, it’s usually difficult to offer or receive assistance from others. And this is how one ends up being miserable. In conclusion, wouldn’t the world be a better place made up of people with powerful C.Vs, vast material wealth, excellent physical looks, so on and so forth, but still maintain, a down to earth character?
