SOUTHERN PROVINCE HUYE — The National University of Rwanda (NUR) scooped the third position at this year’s East Africa Inter-University students’ Expo held early this month in Kampala. The annual event which attracted 29 universities from Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda saw NUR participating for the very first time exhibiting works from its different centers. According to Eddie Tushabe, one of the participants at the Expo, NUR put up a strong challenge for top honours at the event despite participating for the very first time. Tushabe said, “Activities run under different centres and student associations attracted a lot of attention from the general public. The exhibition of our culture through traditional dances was another addition to our exhibition stand that received many visitors.” The university showcased activities run under the University Centre for Conflict Management, the Centre for Geographical Information System, the Rwanda Development Gateway and the Project for Sustaining Partnerships to Enhance Rural Enterprise and Agriculture Business Development (SPREAD). The association of medical and that of agronomy students also participated in the three day event. “The medical students association conducted reproductive health sessions mainly targeting secondary students while the agronomy students enlightened the public on the growing of mushrooms, improved cassava varieties and the growing of edible bamboos,” said Gilbert Mucyo, one of the participants at the exposition. According to Tushabe, the Rwandan delegation learnt a lot from their counter parts in the East African community. Ends
