Belgium should act against violence targeting Rwandans

Editor, This is with reference to the story, “20-year old stabbed to death in Belgium” (The New Times, December 24). Willy Ishimwe Kalimwabo had a whole life ahead of him, but his life has been taken so early. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and I pray that his mother (a Genocide survivor) and family overcome this tragic loss.Indeed, this year has seen unprecedented levels of attacks on Rwandans living in Belgium. School children and older Rwandans in Belgium have been the victims of xenophobic attacks, reportedly hatched by members of the Congolese Diaspora community in Brussels.Ishimwe’s murder follows similar violent attacks on two other Rwandan youth in Belgium, who luckily survived after they were admitted in hospital.Yet the Belgian authorities have not held anyone responsible for these barbaric actions! That’s a shame! This nonsense must be stopped and perpetrators brought to book expeditiously.Gilbert Kayonga, Kigali
