Kazura, Kalisa get Afcon roles

Three top local football personalities have been appointed by the Confederation of African Football [CAF] to take part in organising of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations due in South Africa. Former president of the football federation (Ferwafa) Brig.Gen Jean Bosco Kazura has been appointed a member of the organising committee, while his former right hand man, Jules Kalisa, has been appointed a member of the disciplinary committee.Ferwafa’s former vice president, Celestin Musabyimana, has been appointed the vice president of the media commission. The appointments were made by Caf president, Issa Hayatou, and his executive committee in which 148 individuals were appointed in different committees as the continental football governing body seeks a successful tournament.The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals will kick off on January 1 through February 10, with 16 nations taking part. Hosts South Africa are drawn in Group A with Cape Verde, Morocco and Angola. Group B is comprised of Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Niger and Mali. Defending champions Zambia are pitted against Ethiopia, Burkina Faso and Nigeria in Group C. Group D, which has been dubbed the group of death, has Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Algeria and Tunisia. Afcon Local Organising [LOC] chairman, Chief Mwelo Nonkonyane, gave assurances to the participating teams that they would ‘not let them down’.“We’ve already been put to test by Fifa when we hosted the 2010 Fifa World Cup. We wish to assure the African football [fraternity] that we use football as a tool to help uproot poverty, war and disease, and to promote peace in Africa.”
