AFSR trains cooperatives members

EASTERN PROVINCE RWAMAGANA — ‘Appui a la Filiêre Semenciêre du Rwanda’ (AFSR), a project of the Ministry of Agriculture has started a country wide intensive training for cooperative members. The training is meant to enlighten them on the principles of cooperative organization and management. “We invited heads of cooperatives to train them on the organization and management of cooperative activities,” Aline Ntawukinasangwa told The New Times at Avega after opening a five-day training. Ntawukinasangwa explained that, an experienced Non Governmental Organization (NGO) called UGAMA/CSC has been contracted to extend the training to other cooperatives country wide. By Monday, at least 30 members of different cooperatives from the Eastern Province and Kigali City had turned up for the training. The famers are involved in the growing of rice, sorghum, irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, Soya-beans, peas, beans and ground-nuts. Ntawukinasangwa said the beneficiaries are expected to learn the basic knowledge on the functioning of cooperative, benefits of working together and importance of commercializing their products. In group interview trainees looked ambitious to getting more knowledge from the training. “I look forward to learning management skills from the training,” one of the trainees noted. Ends
