Karate genocide victims remembered

SOUTHERN PROVINCE RUHANGO — Hundreds of martial artists, countrywide participated in competitions aimed to pay tribute to genocide victims that played the same sport. The event was held in Ruhango district this weekend. Participants also visited the district genocide memorial site. Over 10,000 have been buried at the Ruhango site since the 1994 Genocide. District officials, who also organized the event, urged the youth to fight genocide ideology, which has marred the province. Claver Gasirabo, the Director of Education said, it is important for young Rwandans to know what happened during the genocide so as to be able to say ‘Never Again’’. Through such sporting activities, youths can share a bright future with self-control and discipline.” Olive Mukagatare of UNR Club and Jacqueline Byamungu of Mamaru Club emerged the best in the women’s single category and received a gold and silver medal respectively. In the men’s category, Sylvester Twajamahoro of Tiger Club and Didier Gaga of UNR Club also stood as the best in the single category. Ends
