One of Rwanda’s hitmakers Okkama and fast rising singer Christiane Bukuru signed a contract with MetroAfro as their new record label. Founded by Enric Sifa and Isaac Mugisha, the record label is managed and represented by Billy Mugambage, commonly known as Capo Billy. The label aims at giving a platform and shine a spotlight on talent, providing them with artist management and production at industry standards giving them a platform to do what they do best. All of that is done through the artistes, events and partnerships we work with. Talking to The New Times Billy revealed that the three artistes signed under the record label were selected as they believed they all showcased potential to be international artistes. We started with Kigali because of the amazing talent there, but lacked proper management, promotion and funding. Also as it is an ever growing destination for some of the biggest events in Africa,” he said. MetroAfro is a record label located in Portland, Dallas, with recording studios in Kigali. The other artiste signed under the label is Confy. However he didn’t specify the contract period, Billy stressed that the artistes are talented and show their versatility in genres in this music industry, all the way from Soul RnB to Afrobeat. Singer Okkama is known for songs like ‘Apuculi’, ‘Tsaper’, ‘Mesaje’ and ‘No’ among others. Okkama is a star whose musical journey began after completing studies at Nyundo School of Art and Music. Gifted with a soulful and dynamic voice, Okkama effortlessly combines elements of R&B and Afrobeat to create a distinct sound that resonates with listeners. He stressed that their artistes development plan consists of Live performance training, media training, social media content consistency, studio production and writing skills among others. Our vision for the artistes is to be touring acts in East Africa, North America and Europe just to name a few, and go on to win global awards. Our main goal is winning a Grammy as a label by the year 2025.
