The leadership of Karongi district has undertaken an initiative to build stronger working relationships with development partners through recreation and leisure.Last week, the district mayor Bernard Kayumba held fruitful discussions with representatives of Congolese refugees in Kiziba Refugee Camp, which was preceded by a football match in which both sides participated.Representatives from international agencies which operate at the camp such as the American Refugee Committee (ARC), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and African Humanitarian Aid (AHA) also took part. The leisure and entertaining activities were aimed at enhancing mutual relationships between development partners. Despite the heavy downpour, all sides acknowledged the fact that sports, besides being a healthy way of entertainment, is an excellent tool for relationship building among the district authorities, international organisations and refugees.
