THE New Times Senior Sports Reporter Bonnie Mugabe has been elected as the vice president of the East and Central Africa Sports Journalists Association (ECASJA).Mugabe, who won the seat unopposed at the elective annual general meeting held at Nob View Hotel, Kampala on Wednesday, will work alongside Daily Monitor’s sports editor and Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) Mark Namanya, who was elected the chairman.Kenya’s Mike Okinyi was elected the secretary general; vice secretary is Desire Hatungimana from Burundi; Tanzania’s Abdul Mohammed is the treasurer; Uganda’s Patrick Kanyomozi is the publicity officer; while Kenya’s Fred Maingi is the organising secretary.Tanzania’s Somoe Ng’itu was elected on the executive committee as a representative for women sports journalists.Chairman Namanya said, “ECASJA will always promote sports journalism in a transparent way to enhance the spirit of unity and brotherhood. We also want to help regional sports journalists come under one umbrella such that we can work towards a common goal” he said.ECASJA was formed in 1982.
