Editor,I wish to react to the article titled, A reading child is a winning child’ (The New Times, December 5).The author, Stephen Mugisha, rightly stated that a child that is read to at home tends to perform better at school than those that are not read to. The importance of making children get used to books at an early stage cannot be overemphasized, and indeed it makes them learn faster once they start school. Parents and guardians have a big role to play here. This would greatly help improve the reading culture in the country.I wish to thank Stephen for highlighting this important issue.Jeanne MukeshimanaRwamagana
